The Ink Grade Estate Vineyard claims a view hidden from most in the Napa Valley. Perched high atop the Vaca Mountain Range amongst densely forested pines and sequoia stands, it lies in the northeast corner of the Howell Mountain AVA with a panorama facing east.
The vines are terraced up to 2,200 ft in elevation as they cling to the volcanic “tufa” soils. Influenced by this dramatic topography and diurnal temperature variation, the grapes retain exceptional color, flavor, acid structure, and aromatic depth.
The mountain terroir comprises iron-rich volcanic rock and ash formed in the Miocene era almost 5 million years ago by tuffs and flows.
Wrapped around the east side of Howell Mountain, our estate is rooted in the history of Napa Valley, dating back to California’s early gold-seeking settlers and pioneer Theron Ink.
Our land is a legacy, one that we’re committed to preserving. Farmed organically and biodynamically since its inception and spanning 800 wild acres, our Howell Mountain estate is dotted with vine plantings that nurture and respect the natural habitat.
