Deploying a variety of winemaking and fermentation techniques including concrete, stainless steel, and large oak vessels, we are able to marry textures and weights; working to balance the lees while enhancing the natural salinity of this wine.
Nasturtiums are prevalent throughout California, both planted in gardens and in large patches in the wild. The vibrant flowers and leaves of these sprawling plants are also edible. Rising rapidly over 1,500 feet in elevation from its base, this site exemplifies what makes Howell Mountain exceptional and provides the widest variety of soils and conditions. It is because of the inherent qualities of this unique setting that we are able to create something truly rare.
The varying and distinctive landscape of the vineyard parcels meticulously selected for our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon offer a wine of complexity and incredible breadth. This wine possesses a lifted acidity and well-integrated raw mountain tannins that close in a persistent finish, distinct in its ability to be enjoyed at a youthful stage.
The Ink Grade Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a nose of fresh cassis, pomegranate, and cocoa with elements of thyme, mint, candied orange peels, nutmeg, cloves, and paprika. The palate is linear throughout with a consistent midpalate of bright and lifted acidity and well-integrated raw mountain tannins that close in a persistent finish.
Painted by John James Audubon and printed from an engraved plate, this piece depicts the California quail, the state bird of California. Officially designated in 1931, quail are found throughout the state, often strutting about and foraging. They are denoted by the curving plume on the top of their heads and are frequently seen in flocks.
At an elevation of 2200', our Howell Mountain Merlot is one the highest Merlot sites in the Napa Valley. Planted in 1990 on steeply terraced slopes, the vines have been forced to send deep roots into the red Aiken soil that is characteristic of Howell Mountain, yielding fruit of immense intensity, complexity, and vibrancy. 
This vibrant wine has prominent blue and purple fruit components giving way to lilac blossoms and freshly cut pomegranate. Fresh herbs like pennyroyal are complemented by sweet spices. The finish carries through with lingering notes of mature fruits and peppercorn. A complex wine that reflects the unique land where it was grown.
